Arugam Bay is a bay situated on the Indian Ocean in the dry zone of Sri Lanka's southeast coast, and a historic settlement of the ancient Batticaloa Territory via the main road. The bay is located 117 kilometres south of Batticaloa, 320 kilometres due east of Colombo, and approximately 4 kilometres south of the market town of Pottuvil. The main settlement in the area, known locally as Ulla, is predominantly Muslim, however there is a significant Sri Lankan Tamil and Sinhala population to the south of the village, as well as a number of international expatriates, largely from Europe and Australia.

Surfing Capital Arugam Bay is one of the top surf spots in the world, hosting international competitions. The main point break offers long, consistent right-hand waves. There are also beginner-friendly spots like "Baby Point."

Lagoon Safaris Nearby Pottuvil Lagoon offers eco-tours where you can spot crocodiles, elephants bathing, and a variety of birdlife while paddling through the mangroves.

Kumana National Park Located just south of Arugam Bay, Kumana is famous for its bird sanctuary. It is an important nesting ground for painted storks, herons, egrets, and pelicans.
